Fab’s Autobackup updated for Windows 7, still a killer migration tool
I’ve been using Fab’s AutoBackup for ages on my workbench. It’s a nice alternative to MigWiz, and I love the fact that Fab’s backs everything up in plain old folders – not a single-file format. If you’ve ever had a MigWiz backup go awry and wound up with a corrupted file, you know where I’m coming from.
The only downside to Fab’s is that it wasn’t Windows Vista or Windows 7 compatible. That changed recently, with the release of version 3.
In addition to supporting newer Windows OSes, AutoBackup v3 also adds broader program support. Google Chrome, Safari, Thunderbird, Live Messenger, Skype, and (gag) Incredimail have all been added. There’s also no longer a need for separate PE and Windows versions since you can choose to back up custom folder locations.
While version 2 is still free, the new version 3 is payware – if you can really call it that. 4,70€ for a piece of software as useful as Fab’s AutoBackup – that’s less than $7 US, and one of the best software bargains I’ve seen in a long time.
